Director, Hastings Center for Pulmonary Research and Chief, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine | Los Angeles, California The Keck School of Medicine (Keck School) at the University of Southern California (USC) seeks a strategic, collaborative, and entrepreneurial leader to serve in the dual roles of Director of the Hastings Center for Pulmonary Research (HCPR) and Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine (PCCSM). This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished physician-scientist to shape, build, and grow a well-resourced research center and a major clinical division at both the Keck School and Keck Medicine of USC.In 2026, the Hastings Foundation made a transformative $20 million gift to the Keck School to advance pulmonary research at HCPR, bringing its total support of USC research to more than $75 million since 1961. The unwavering support of the Hastings Foundation underscores a sustained commitment to advancing impactful discoveries in pulmonary medicine, including across the domains of regenerative medicine and stem cell biology, interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, asthma and inflammatory diseases, and lung cancer in combination with exceptional clinical care.The division of PCCSM is one of the 11 divisions within the Department of Medicine, consisting of 36 faculty, 18 staff, and 24 fellows. Members of the division provide inpatient services at the Keck Hospital of USC, USC Norris Cancer Hospital, USC Arcadia Hospital, and outpatient services at the USC, Arcadia, Verdugo Hills campuses. The faculty covers four critical care units, three at the Keck Hospital and one at the Norris Cancer Hospital.Reporting to the Dean of the Keck School, Dr. Carolyn Meltzer, through the Chair of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Susan Gurley, the next Center Director and Division Chief will be a respected physician-scientist responsible for the visionary leadership across both HCPR and PCCSM, growing the high-impact pulmonary clinical practice and shaping an integrated scientific direction in pulmonary research that advances discoveries across the full spectrum from basic science to translational science to clinical care.
