Located in Beaufort, North Carolina—an area that is home to one of the greatest concentrations of marine scientists in the nation—DUML operates year‑round as a distinguished center for research, education, and community engagement focused on marine and coastal systems. The Marine Lab is internationally recognized for its field‑based inquiry, immersive learning environment, and interdisciplinary collaboration across the natural and social sciences, engineering, and policy. DUML fosters a close-knit, hands-on academic community and offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs that are integral to Duke’s broader mission to advance ocean and coastal stewardship.The next Director will guide DUML into its next chapter, partnering with faculty, staff, and university leadership to steward and strengthen this distinctive coastal campus. Reporting to the Dean of the Nicholas School, the Director will provide strategic, operational, and external leadership. The Director serves as DUML’s primary ambassador, strengthening internal and external connections.
