The Major will navigate a uniquely nuanced public safety environment by balancing low‑crime campus operations with the realities of bordering neighborhoods, managing frequent demonstrations and active student groups, and partnering closely with faculty, staff, and community stakeholders.Success in this role requires exceptional communication skills, cultural competency, and experience in community policing, investigations, administration, and program development. The Major also serves as a key member of the department’s command staff, with responsibilities that include emergency response leadership, policy development, personnel management, and data‑driven reporting.
