We are pleased to announce the completion of our search for the Director of the Pennsylvania State University School of International Affairs. From a strong pool of candidates, Mitchell Smith, PhD has been selected to fill this important position. He will assume his new role on July 1, 2023.

Mitchell Smith is a seasoned administrator and accomplished academic who brings a wealth of experience to the School of International Affairs. Prior to arriving PSU, Smith served as the associate dean for academic affairs at the David L. Boren College of International Studies at the University of Oklahoma, having also previously served as interim dean. An expert in comparative and international political economy, with a particular emphasis on European integration, Smith was also previously the director of Oklahoma University's European Union Center. He has been a Fulbright Fellow in European Union Affairs and a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels, Belgium. He also has been a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Mitchell Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Public Administration from Princeton University School of Public and International Affairs, and a Ph.D. from Princeton University’s Department of Politics.
