University Librarian Georgetown University | Washington, District of Columbia Georgetown University has selected Alexia Hudson-Ward as the next University Librarian. She will assume her role on August 30.Dr. Hudson-Ward will join Georgetown University from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she is currently the Associate Director of Research, Learning, and Strategic Partnerships at MIT Libraries. In this role, she leads public services, fostering collaborations across more than 40 MIT entities to drive education and research innovation. She also guides the MIT Libraries’ AI strategy. She brings a multidisciplinary approach to librarianship that emphasizes open access, community engagement, and inclusive excellence. Before joining MIT, she directed the Oberlin College Libraries, where she transformed library services and earned top campus recognition. Her accolades include honors from the American Library Association, Library Journal, and the University of Pittsburgh.Dr. Hudson-Ward is the incoming President-Elect of the Association of College and Research Libraries and is an elected member of the American Antiquarian Society. She serves on several boards, including The Conversation U.S. Edition and the Corning Museum of Glass. A prolific writer and editor, she co-created the acclaimed blog Toward Inclusive Excellence and has authored several works, with a new book, Social Intelligence in the Age of AI, forthcoming from ALA Editions.Dr. Hudson-Ward holds a PhD in Library and Information Science from Simmons University, an MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh, and a BA from Temple University.Anita Tien led this search with Andy Marshall, supported by Christina Errico.
