President/Chief Executive Officer The National Judicial College | Reno, Nevada We are pleased to announce that the National Judicial College has selected Dean Aviva Abramovsky to serve as its next president and chief executive officer. She currently serves as the dean and a professor of law at the University of Idaho College of Law and previously was the dean of the University of Buffalo Law School, The State University of New York. Dean Abramovsky will be the 12th person and first woman to serve as president of The National Judicial College. While a law dean, Dean Abramovsky created several new initiatives, including an undergraduate program in law, several 3+3 BA/JD programs, a doctorate in judicial science, new clinical programs, and the revitalization of an Innocence and Justice Project. At the Syracuse University College of Law, she served as the Kaufman Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation as well as the Associate Dean for International Initiatives and Associate Dean for Special Projects. A noted expert in insurance law, commercial law, regulation of financial entities and legal ethics, Dean Abramovsky has authored “Uniform Commercial Code, West’s McKinney’s Forms for New York,” as well as numerous other book chapters and articles in the insurance and commercial law fields. She is also a member of the American Law Institute. She received the New York State Bar Association Professor David D. Siegel Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to the study of New York law. Dean Abramovsky served twice as an academic evaluator for the American Bar Association’s federal judiciary committees. While in private practice, Dean Abramovsky worked at Anderson Kill & Olick in New York, focusing on insurance law in the aftermath of 9/11. She earned her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she served as managing editor of the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Constitutional Law.
