Dean University of Central Florida, College of Health Professions and Sciences | Orlando, Florida The University of Central Florida has selected Dr. Matthew Theriot as Dean of the College of Health Professions and Sciences, effective immediately.As interim dean, he fostered an environment in which students, faculty, and employees were empowered to achieve the highest levels of success while also pursuing opportunities to increase research productivity and expenditures.Prior to that role, as the Director of the School of Social Work, Dean Theriot oversaw the growth in excellence of UCF’s Master of Social Work program, which is now recognized in the top 25 percent of all social work programs nationally by U.S. News & World Report. Under his leadership, the school also established a Center for Professional and Community Education that strives to enrich the knowledge and skills of social workers, allied health professionals, students, alumni, and the public.Dean Theriot earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work at the University of Texas at Austin and his doctoral degree in social welfare from the University of California at Berkeley. Prior to higher education, he worked as a school social worker, child welfare worker, and mobile crisis counselor.Sean Farrell led the search with Tiffany Weber and Drew Chang.
