Dean University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Albin O. Kuhn Library | Baltimore, Maryland The University of Maryland, Baltimore County has named Sophia Sotilleo as the inaugural Vice Provost and Dean of the Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery, effective August 1, 2025.Ms. Sotilleo joins UMBC from Bowie State University, where she has served as Dean of the Thurgood Marshall Library since 2022. Ms. Sotilleo’s academic interests center on embedded librarianship, particularly its intersections with access, advocacy, and leadership in higher education. At Bowie State, she led transformative initiatives in digital access, research support, and campus-wide library engagement. She has chaired the Council of Library Deans and Directors for the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI), where she led efforts to improve system-wide digital access, research support, and inter-campus collaboration. She also serves as an Executive Board Member of the American Library Association (ALA). Ms. Sotilleo was previously a Faculty Mentor/Advisory Board Member at Princeton University and served as the Interim Library Dean at Lincoln University. Ms. Sotilleo is a dedicated academic librarian and higher education leader with a career rooted in intellectual freedom, student-centered service, and inclusive access to information.
