Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology University of Michigan Medical School | Ann Arbor, Michigan The University of Michigan Board of Regents has approved the appointment of Dr. Sachin Kheterpal, M.D., MBA, as chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and the Robert B. Sweet Endowed Professor of Anesthesiology, effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Kheterpal currently serves as the Kevin K. Tremper Professor of Anesthesiology, associate dean for research information technology in the Medical School, as well as associate chair for strategy and technology within the Department of Anesthesiology. He also previously served as associate chair of clinical affairs within the department. Dr. Kheterpal is a transplant anesthesiologist who supports numerous emerging scholars as a primary mentor and serves as PI for several PCORI- and NIH-funded multicenter trials, and the department’s NIH T32 physician-scientist training program. Dr. Kheterpal is nationally recognized for his work in perioperative large dataset research, data science, and novel clinical trials. He is founder and executive director of the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG), a consortium of more than 70 health systems and 150 hospitals across the U.S., Canada, Middle East, and Europe. Prior to his time in academia, Dr. Kheterpal co-founded a national electronic health record software company, which was acquired by General Electric. He served as GE’s global general manager of product marketing, development, and strategy for clinical information systems.Dr. Kheterpal earned his B.S., M.D., and MBA degrees all from the University of Michigan, where he also completed his residency in anesthesiology and transplant anesthesia fellowship.
