Associate Dean for Academic Affairs University of Minnesota School of Dentistry | Minneapolis, Minnesota We are pleased to announce that Dr. Marcia Campos DDS, MS, PhD, has been appointed Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Dr. Campos began her new role August 25, 2025.Dr. Campos brings a rich background in clinical practice, research, teaching, and academic leadership. She practiced as a general dentist and oral pathologist for 10 years in her private clinic, while also teaching and conducting research at three universities in Brazil.She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2001, a Master of Science in Biological Sciences in 2004, a PhD in Oral Pathology in 2008, and a Certificate in Oral Pathology in 2010. In 2009, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan.Dr. Campos has extensive experience mentoring predoctoral and graduate students and has received multiple awards for her excellence in teaching and mentorship. Her early research focused on oral biofilms and oral diseases, particularly oral cancer, resulting in numerous peer-reviewed publications, including cover features in leading journals. More recently, her research interests have expanded to cariology, educational innovation (including the use of AI in learning and assessment), interprofessional education and practice (IPE/IPC), student wellbeing, and holistic approaches to education.Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, she held faculty positions at the University of Iowa and the University of Michigan, where she served on several committees dedicated to student support and academic development.Dr. Campos has also held leadership roles in initiatives related to IPE/IPC, wellbeing, and global engagement. She co-led a Global Initiatives Program trip to Honduras and served as director of the Mental Health Program at the University of Michigan, where she launched a pioneering initiative to promote mental health and wellbeing among faculty, staff, and students.In recognition of her contributions to the field, she was inducted into the American College of Dentists in 2024 and graduated from the ADEA Leadership Institute in 2025, where she was elected class representative.
