Director, Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections The University of New Mexico, College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences | Albuquerque, New Mexico We are pleased to share the outcome of our search for the director of the Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections at The University of New Mexico’s (UNM) College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences. From a strong pool of candidates, UNM has selected Dr. Suzanne M. Schadl to fill this important position, beginning August 1, 2025. From 2008 to 2018, Dr. Schadl served as the curator of Latin American Collections at UNM, where she oversaw one of the largest and most respected Latin American library holdings in the country. In 2018, Dr. Schadl began serving as the chief of the Latin American, Caribbean, and European Division at the Library of Congress. In this role, she led expansive efforts to develop and share library collections representing 83 countries and over 60 languages. As a senior leader within the General and International Collections division, she has also contributed to shaping the vision and strategy of the Library of Congress, the world’s largest library and the nation’s oldest federal cultural heritage institution.Dr. Schadl holds a PhD in Latin American Studies from The University of New Mexico and a BA in International Studies and Spanish from The Ohio State University.Read more about Suzanne’s hire here.Julie Filizetti led this search with Jonathan Sanchez and Henry Nickerson.
