William K. Warren Foundation Dean University of Notre Dame, College of Science | Notre Dame, Indiana The University of Notre Dame has selected Steven Corcelli as the next William K. Warren Foundation Dean of the College of Science. Dr. Corcelli has served as interim dean since July 2025 and will assume the permanent role on April 1.Prior to his appointment as interim dean, Dr. Corcelli served as chair of Notre Dame's Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry from 2022 to 2025, and as the associate dean for interdisciplinary studies and faculty development in the College of Science from 2019 to 2022. He joined Notre Dame’s faculty as an assistant professor in 2005.Dr. Corcelli leads a research program focused on the molecular-level understanding of aqueous acids, bases and salts, as well as on the mechanisms of biomolecular binding. His lab uses advanced simulations to investigate ion transport in aqueous electrolytes — relevant to battery technologies — and the binding interactions critical to biological function and drug development. He has received national recognition for his research, including an NSF CAREER Award, a Sloan Research Fellowship, and the Camille and Henry Dreyfus New Faculty Award. Corcelli is a fellow of the American Chemical Society and a Kavli Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences. He has authored over 90 publications and given more than 100 invited talks.Dr. Corcelli is also a dedicated educator who has received multiple teaching awards, including the Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C., Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and the Thomas P. Madden Award for Excellence in Teaching First-Year Undergraduates.Dr. Corcelli earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Brown University and his doctoral degree in chemistry from Yale University.Anita Tien led this search with Jonathan Sanchez, supported by Christina Errico.
