She brings over a decade of experience in higher education, K-12 independent schools, and arts + culture organizations, working as an instructor, researcher, and administrator. Aku specializes in executive searches in higher education and arts and culture. She has supported CEO, dean, and director searches at institutions such as UC Berkeley, NYU, Charles & Ray Eames Foundation, The Huntington, and Getty Foundation.Prior to her work at IM, Aku served as Dean of Equity and Inclusion at the Urban School of San Francisco. She managed the school’s multicultural life division, led equitable teaching and learning, developed leadership pathways for students and employees, and created systems for equity and belonging. At Urban, Stanford, and Princeton, Aku has partnered on initiatives including strategic planning, Title IX policy, and undergraduate curriculum.Aku earned her PhD in English from Stanford University. She previously served on Princeton University’s board of trustees and is a founding member of The Ruby, a literature and arts organization in San Francisco.
