Brown University, Associate Vice President, Advancement Communications

Brown University named Anne-Marie Dorning as Associate Vice President for Advancement Communications. Dorning joins Brown from Olin College, where she most recently served as vice president for marketing and communications. 

In her new role, Dorning will report to the senior vice president for advancement and serve on his executive team as a critical partner and thought leader. She will oversee strategy, content, and creative development of a full portfolio of strategic communications to Brown’s alumni, parents, and friends in support of the university’s engagement and fundraising goals and objectives. With a dotted line report to the senior vice president for communications, Dorning will also partner closely with the office of university communications and communications staff across Brown’s schools, units, and institutes to ensure effective and consistent messaging that reflects the university’s institutional values and priorities.

Dorning has over two decades of experience as a communications professional in both higher education and journalism. A passion for storytelling in all its forms has been an enduring thread throughout her career. At Olin, Dorning assembled an integrated team with responsibility for internal and external communications, crisis communications, marketing, and alumni and parent relations. She served on the president’s senior leadership team and worked collaboratively across the college to create original and engaging content in service of Olin’s unique academic mission.

Prior to her role at Olin, Dorning earned five Emmy awards during her career in broadcast journalism. Across all of ABC News’ major platforms, including World News Tonight, Nightline, and Good Morning America, she covered both breaking news and national events, producing some of the most widely viewed and important stories of the time.  Dorning received her master’s degree in journalism from Northeastern University and her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Toronto.
