In a typical year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met or the Museum) hosts over 100 local, national, and international fellows, interns, and visiting scholars and practitioners, who become an enduring part of The Met’s world-class, vibrant academic community of curators, scientists, educators, technicians, and other experts. This leader will engage with both local, and global contexts in new and exciting ways in the next chapter for the Education Department, guided by The Met’s overall Vision 2025. The ideal candidate is a skilled and experienced leader who will serve as a key programmatic partner to the Chair of Education, stakeholders across the Museum, and with local and global communities of scholars, practitioners, and other experts. The Educator in Charge will oversee Academic and Research programs and initiative, developing inclusive and accessible onsite, offsite and hybrid programs that promote cross-disciplinary learning and cross-cultural understanding. Charged with implementing the expansion and enhancement of the Academic and Research programs, the Educator in Charge will further establish The Met as a world class authority on art learning, research, and scholarship that is multidisciplinary, equitable, and inclusive.Sarah James is leading this search with Hannah Moore.
