Vice Provost for Global Affairs University of Washington | Seattle, Washington The University of Washington seeks a strategic, creative, and collaborative Vice Provost for Global Affairs. The UW is distinguished by a culture that is unafraid to try new approaches and ambitious in achieving new heights in its academic and research goals, locally and globally. The Vice Provost will have the opportunity to craft and spearhead global engagement efforts at a university that is highly focused on global outreach as part of its research and teaching missions. Over the years, the University has let various efforts blossom in the global engagement realm and continues to seek new ways for its faculty and students to have an impact across the world. The University leadership and community will look to the Vice Provost for Global Affairs to play a key role in these efforts. The Vice Provost oversees the Office of Global Affairs at the Seattle campus, which serves as an important administrative entity for the university community. Currently the office has purview over the UW Seattle’s study abroad programs; offers guidance and advice in establishing relationships with international entities; and provides assistance around the health and safety of faculty, staff and students when they are abroad. In recent years, the Office of Global Affairs has looked to ways in which it can play a role beyond study abroad and as advisor for policies and procedures. Under its current strategic plan, the Office of Global Affairs looks to innovate and expand student global opportunities; catalyze community global engagement; expand and improve services and support for international travelers, all while promoting an equitable and inclusive environment. The success of the next Vice Provost for Global Affairs will be determined by their ability to serve as a strategic thought leader and partner on global issues; the ability to enhance and expand global partnerships; coordinate and collaborate with university members; advocate for the needs of the Office of Global Affairs; effectively lead and manage the Office of Global Affairs staff; and help catalyze greater global engagement at the Bothell and Tacoma campuses. The Vice Provost will work within the context of a large and complex public research university with a decentralized organizational structure. They will be expected to be an astute and energetic builder of relationships. The Vice Provost of Global Affairs reports directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.The UW is committed to conducting an extensive national search for this position.
