Chair of the Department of Medicine Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine | East Lansing, Michigan Michigan State University (MSU), College of Human Medicine has selected Dr. Charles (Chaz) Hong, MD, PhD as the next Chair of the Department of Medicine, effective September 8th 2023.Dr. Hong’s research focuses on bridging pharmacology, cell and molecular biology, genetics, and cardiology and he comes to MSU with a long history of NIH funding and research success. Dr. Hong also has a long history of dedicated work as a mentor for students, residents, fellows, post-docs, and faculty. He will continue his mentorship at MSU, supporting clinician scientists through the university’s partnership with Henry Ford Health, as well as providing excellent clinical care and education, and growing MSU’s College of Human Medicine programs in science and discovery.Dr. Hong joins MSU from the University of Maryland School of Medicine where he served as Director of Cardiology Research & Co-Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine. Prior to his time at the University of Maryland, Dr. Hong served as Associate Professor of Medicine, Pharmacology, Cell, and Developmental Biology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Hong completed his Bachelor’s degree at MIT, his MD-PhD and internal medicine residency at Yale School of Medicine, his cardiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, and his research fellowships at Harvard Medical School.Jamie Sands led this search with Katie White and Lily Sethares.
