President School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) | Chicago, Illinois SAIC (School of the Art Institute of Chicago) has announced its selection of Jiseon Lee Isbara as its next President. She will assume her new role later this summer.Jiseon Lee Isbara currently serves as provost of Otis College of Art and Design, where she has led the implementation of a five-year strategic plan which resulted in substantive changes at the school, including enrollment growth, a curricular revision to better align pedagogy with student mental health and career preparedness, and a strengthening of the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion infrastructure. Previously, she was at Oregon College of Art and Craft (OCAC) for 16 years, first as a faculty member, then as head of the Fibers Department, dean of academic affairs and chief academic officer, and ultimately interim president. Throughout her career, she has shown a deep understanding of the innovations and evolutions driving effective teaching and learning. Hers is a record of bold and courageous leadership, as well as a record of bringing people together to make meaningful change. Jiseon Lee Isbara holds a master of fine arts degree in Fibers from Colorado State University. She also holds a master of fine arts degree and a bachelor of fine arts degree from Ehwa Womans University in Seoul, Korea. A practicing artist herself, she understands firsthand the power and importance of an art and design education. Her textile work, which addresses the complexity of current cultural discourse through the lens of her experience as an immigrant of color, has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
