Executive Director Stanford Jazz Workshop | Stanford, California Stanford Jazz Workshop has named Cory Combs as its next Executive Director, effective September 2023.An experienced non-profit arts executive, educator, bassist, and composer, Combs will work with Stanford Jazz Workshop Founder and Artistic Director Jim Nadel to provide strategic vision and operational leadership as the non-profit organization embarks on a period of growth and transition. Combs succeeds longtime Executive Director David Miller, who is retiring. Cory Combs joins Stanford Jazz Workshop from InterMusic SF where he has served as Executive Director for five years. There, he programmed SF Music Day and provided fiscal sponsorship, artist professional development, and music grant programs. Prior to leading InterMusic SF, Combs was the Director of Music, Outreach, and Enrichment at The Nueva School and was a member of the leadership team that planned and launched the Nueva Upper School. He directed programs across grades K-12, taught music technology and music history classes, and served as the founder and Director of the advanced jazz ensemble. Previously, Combs was the Director of Education at SFJAZZ where he led the organization’s expansive educational outreach programs, engaging youth to adult participants. Cory earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Eastman School of Music where he studied classical music performance and jazz composition.Rebecca Swartz led this search with Nella Young, Harley Bartles, and Rachel Banderob.
