Executive Director of Development, School of Biological Sciences University of California, Irvine | Irvine, California University of California, Irvine has named Hazel Breen as Executive Director of Development for the School of Biological Sciences, effective November 1, 2023. Breen joins UC Irvine from the California Institute of Technology, where she served as Senior Director of Development for the division of Biology and Biological Engineering.In her new role at UC Irvine, Breen will partner closely with Dr. Frank LaFerla, Dean of the School of Biological Sciences, to lead the development program. She will cultivate principal and major gift donors to maximize philanthropic resources for the school. Breen has over 20 years of experience in fundraising and strategy in higher education and healthcare. Prior to Caltech, Breen held senior roles at the University of Southern California, serving most recently as Senior Director of Development for the Keck School of Medicine, where she led the philanthropic support and strategic partnerships in the area of neuroscience. Additionally, Breen served as Vice President for Development within Providence Health and Services, where she led philanthropic efforts across two acute-care hospitals, and managed a development team focused on major gift fundraising in support of strategic initiatives. Breen holds a bachelor of science degree in life sciences from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London University, and a master of business administration from the USC Marshall School of Business.Rachel Ellenport led this search with Nicole Poe, Emily Godamanna, and Lisa Clayton.
