Chair, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation University of Michigan Medical School | Ann Arbor, Michigan The University of Michigan Board of Regents has approved the appointment of Dr. Nitin Jain, MBBS, MSPH, as Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the James W. Rae Collegiate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and a professor of orthopedic surgery in the Medical School, effective February 12, 2024.Dr. Jain joins the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS) from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he served as tenured professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation and of orthopedic surgery. He also served as the Distinguished Chair of Orthopedic Rehabilitation at the Dallas Rehabilitation Institute.Dr. Jain’s clinical and research interests include clinical trials and genetics of shoulder pain and rotator cuff tears, knee pain, regenerative medicine therapies, and musculoskeletal ultrasound. Jain has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and other granting entities to support his work. As he joins Michigan Medicine, he looks forward to continuing the education and mentoring elements that are also important aspects of his work.Dr. Jain earned his medical degree at the Baroda Medical College of Maharaja Sayajirao University in India. He completed two research fellowships, one in sports medicine and orthopedics at Duke University and the other in epidemiology and outcomes at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
