Center Director, PET Research Center Yale University School of Medicine | New Haven, Connecticut We are pleased to announce that Yale School of Medicine has named Georges El Fakhri, PhD as director of the Yale Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Center. He will begin his role on November 1.Dr. El Fakhri will be joining YSM from Harvard Medical School where he is the inaugural Nathaniel and Diana Alpert Professor of Radiology, founding director of the Gordon Center for Medical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), and director of the MGH PET Core. He also serves as faculty member of the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology (HST) and as reviewer and chair of chartered study sections at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).In addition to more than 300 publications and 400-plus invited speaking engagements, Dr. El Fakhri’s numerous scientific contributions include pioneering novel approaches for dual isotope imaging, seminal fundamental research in PET/MR mapping of membrane potential and neurotransmission, quantitative imaging identifying early brain structures in prodromal Alzheimer’s Disease, original PET myocardial blood flow quantification (now widely translated into clinical use), and the development of ultra-high resolution brain PET scanners approaching the resolution of MR.Dr. El Fakhri’s contributions have been recognized by many honors and awards, including the Marc Tetalman, MD, Memorial Award from the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI), the Dana Foundation Brain and Immuno-Imaging Award, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute T32 Training Innovation Award, and the prestigious Hoffman Award from the SNMMI. He also was elected fellow to the SNMMI, American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering (IAMBE), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for long lasting contributions to quantitative biological imaging.Dr. El Fakhri holds a PhD in medical physics and an MS in biomedical engineering from the University of Paris XI, an MS in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a masters of engineering from Ecole Centrale, France.Ariannah Mirick led this search with Joanna Cook.
